The Arnold Arboretum maintained a close relationship with the Massachusetts Horticulural Society as a sister institution. This relationship was particularly strong during Donald Wyman's tenure as a horticulturist at the Arnold Arboretum (1936-1970). Most of the material consists of records and minutes of various committee meetings. While the earliest records in the collection cover the years 1939-40, the bulk of the records span the 1960s with some materials from the 70s and 80s.

The Arnold Arboretum has had a long association with its sister institution the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. However, it was during Donald Wyman's tenure as Horticulturist of the Arnold Arboretum, from 1935 to 1969, that the relationship florished. The planning for the Arnold Arboretum Centennial celebration began in 1967 when Dr. Richard A. Howard, Arboretum Director from 1954-1978, appointed committees of supporters and visiting-committee members to raise funds for the upcoming event.
